Dave Proffitt got his start in volleyball, both as a player and later as a coach, in Sacramento. He played for Cal State Sacramento Men's Club team for four years, winning a National Club Championship in 1997. 

His club volleyball coaching expereice includes a year with High Volleyball Club and one year at Spike Volleyball Club before moving to San Diego. Dave coached in both the 15's and 16's age groups at Solana Beach Volleyball Club and started coaching at Epic in 2004. Dave has coached boys and girls team in multiple age divisions at Epic. For the past two seasons he has been the head coach on the 18-1s for Epic VBC.

In the high school ranks, Dave coached for four years at El Camino High School and then one year at Bella Vista High School in Sacramento. Dave served as the Varsity Assistant coach for Santa Fe Christian High School. He coached the 2004 Santa Fe Christian Varsity Girls to a Division 5 CIF State Championship as the Interim Head Coach. Dave also coached at Poway High School for three seasons as the JV Head Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach. He was also the Varsity and JV coach at Mire Mesa High School during the 2013 high school session. 

Dave started his college coach at San Diego Mesa College in 2014 where he served as the  Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach for three seasons. In 2017 he served as the Head Coach at Cuyamaca for two seasons before returning to SD Mesa College to take over the Men’s team in 2018. 

Dave is currently the Head Coach of the SD Mesa Men’s team and also the Assistant Coach of the SD Mesa Women’s team.
