Defending champ SD Mesa tops first 2024 State Top 25 women's volleyball rankings

The 2024 opening CCCWVCA State Top 25 Rankings are the earliest released than any previous year as the ratings usually don't take place until after all the teams played their first matches. As of now, 23 colleges have yet to play their first official match.

Today's opening rankings feature many of the teams who were part of the final '23 rankings as well as a few others that have shown early promise this past weekend.

San Diego Mesa, the defending state champion, is the opening #1 team despite the graduation of state tourney MVP and CCCSIA State Women's Athlete of the Year for all sports Kailyn Jager to UC Riverside.

The Big 8 Conference continues to be the gold standard as three of its teams are in the top four and the league's top seven teams were a combined 14-2 to start the season.

The regions collide this Friday-Saturday, Aug. 30-31 in the inaugural NorCal-SoCal Showcase as six teams in this poll's top 10 are featured with #7 Fresno City the host.
