Women's Volleyball Season Preview

The San Diego Mesa College women’s volleyball team looks to improve last year’s second place conference finish with a revamped line-up consisting of new and familiar faces. The season gets underway on Wednesday, August 30 as the Olympians play host to the Inland Empire Athletic Conference champions, College of the Desert at 5:00 p.m.

Led by Bobbie Jo Stall-Vest, who is entering her sixth-year at the helm, this year's squad will look entirely different from last season. The team lost a total of nine sophomores through graduation who played pivotal roles on the team.  Among them were first team All-Conference Tori Goff, Isabelle Bakker, and Sophia Jarosz.

But with every challenge comes an opportunity. Sophomores Olivia Ostler, Eli Eltrich, and Sophia DelaCruz are expected to step up and  fill the void of the players that have matriculated. The program also welcomes Kaelyn Jager from MiraCosta College and Jaelyn Douglas from University of Alaska - Anchorage. Both transfers are expected to contribute immediately with their play and experience.

The team welcomes the following freshmen:

- Macy Thornburg
- Lia Go-Soco
- Sarina Faavi
- Mia Foster
- Ryleigh Pittman
- Rebecca Cherf
- Jaiden Mojica
- Amiana Lagrimas
- Maria Coronado
- Yordie Orelli

Despite having one of the best records and RPI rankings in school history, the season ended abruptly after being upset by Santa Barbara City College. Head coach Bobbie Jo Stall- Vest says, “we failed to succeed in high pressure situations, which led to our season ending early. This offseason, we worked on replacing the talent we lost, but more importantly, we continue to build on our culture and have everyone's mindset on the same page in order for us to get to the finish line.”
