The San Diego Mesa College women’s volleyball team are currently on a 14 game win streak, and used the bye week to fix what needed fixing. Head coach Bobbie Jo Stall-Vest explains that even though the ladies are playing well, there’s always something to better at, including all around consistency, execution, and developing spots that are not as productive as others.

The Olympians will be hosting an important conference battle against Grossmont College on Wednesday, October 4. Both teams are undefeated in the conference with a 4-0 record, the Griffins having only dropped one match, against non-conference opponent, Mt. San Antonio College. The two teams met twice last season, with the Griffins coming out victorious in both.

In order to keep control of the conference, the Olympians are going to continue to look for contributions from the following players.

  • Kailyn Jaeger has been solid all season with 4.84 kills per set leading the PCAC and 2nd overall.

  • Freshman setter Jaiden Mojica has been an absolute rockstar. She leads the entire state in assists per set at 11.09, leads the team in digs and aces as well.

  • Sophomore Opposite Olivia Ostler has the second most kills and blocks on the team and has been solid at that position with a season high 16 kills against Santa Barbara.

  • Sophomore Emily Eltrich has come out strong, especially in conference play, with 3.0 kills/set hitting a .400, has 22 aces this season and 87 digs.

  • Transfer Jaelyn Douglas has been making big strides at middle, leading the team and conference in blocks, including a season high 9 blocks in a 5 set thriller against Moorpark.

This year's squad is a little different from last year. This team appears to be stronger and more experienced at the pins, especially in pressure situations. “We have shown a good amount of grit and resilience,” adds Stall-Vest. “When we face pressure, we have had some clutch plays and the team has responded well. Our fourteen wins have not come easy, they have been hard fought and at times, we’ve had to come from behind.”

Although the team is currently playing well, the team is cautious to let their overall record get to their heads. The coaching staff reminds the players to stay humble and stay hungry. “We know what kind of volleyball team we have, but there is a lot more work to do,’ adds Stall-Vest. “If we continue to get better on our weaker spots, and continue to build on our stronger attributes, we have an opportunity to do something really special this year.”
