2023 Women's Swim and Dive Season Preview

The San Diego Mesa College women’s swim and dive team are once again ready to make a splash in 2023. The Olympians look to defend their fourth consecutive conference title with a mix of intermediate and advanced swimmers and divers. Not only did the team secure the conference title last season, they also qualified 5 swimmers and 2 divers for the CCCAA State Championships which earned the program a 7th place finish.

The team will have seven key returners (6 swimmers and 1 diver). Torrey Brindell, Kiley Knight, Isabella Vasilev and Diver Hannah Spencer all return as CCCAA state qualifiers, ranking them top 16 in the state in their respective events from 2022.

“We have a solid group of freshmen,” states head coach Paul Mazzarelle. “We have intermediate to advanced swimmers and divers, including some impressive dual-sport athletes (water polo). I believe we have great depth and there will be opportunities for individuals to rise into key roles this season.”

With a qualified coaching staff that have resources to help their athletes, this year's team is bound for success. SD Mesa College swim and dive program has developed into one of the top aquatics program in the state. “Our focus this season is for our student-athletes to work together, support each other’s goals to improve, and have fun, “states Mazzarelle. “When these three things happen our season will be a success. We are aware of those who came before, and conscious of the PCAC first place winning streak, but this end result is not the goal. The positive experience along the way is the objective, and with this approach we will again put ourselves in a good place to be in the running for a top finish in 2023.
