The San Diego Mesa College women’s swim and dive team defended its Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title for the fifth straight season, capturing the title with 783 points on Thursday at Southwestern College. They were followed by Grossmont College with 619 points, Palomar College 493 points, Southwestern College 264 points, and Crafton Hills College 178 points.

Head coach Paul Mazzarelle describes the success as driven by a team-first approach. He explains that members of the team would say, “coach, put me in whatever event that will help the team.”  This strategy along with team depth provided the team with the best opportunity to score points. “I’m going to avoid naming individuals because this truly was 100% team effort,” adds Mazzarelle. “Literally every team member at the competition scored points for Mesa. Additionally, the team spirit was on-point and one ever swam alone; in my mind the support for one another also scored first-place!”
