PCAC taps Palomar's Lopez as its Women's AOTW

The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference has honored Palomar College softball player Moriah "Mo" Lopez as Women's Athlete of the Week for March 13-19.

Lopez, a sophomore position player / pitcher from San Jacinto Acaemy, had another big week for the defending champion and first-place Comets.

Along the way, Lopez solidified her batting stats (.515 average with 9 doubles, a triple, 5 home runs and a .909 slugging percentage) and her pitching record (3-0).

She singled to drive in a run and pitched the final three innings to record the win in a 13-4, six-inning run-rule victory over Grossmont. Lopez came back with a key double to help the Comets hold off Imperial Valley's best team in history 3-1 and was 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs in a 6-5 non-conference loss to an El Camino College team that is 20-5 on the season.

Lopez is batting .556 in the conference, where she also owns an ERA of 0.64.

Honorable mention for the week went to second-place Southwestern's softball player Nicole Correia, San Diego Mesa swimmer Andreanna Mill and Grossmont softball player Sophia Sahagun.

Correia, a freshman first baseman out of Point Loma High School, went 9-for-16 with 3 doubles, a stolen base, 2 runs scored and 5 RBIs during the week. She went 3-for 4 with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and a run scored in an 11-3 win over Mt. San Jacinto; was 2-cor-3 with a steal and a run scored in a 6-0 victory over San Diego City College, went 2-for-3 with a walk in a 5-4 win vs. Moorpark, went 1-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs in a 6-0 victory over Hancock and was 1-for-2 and walked in the Jaguars' 5-0 loss to Mt. SAC.

Mill, a freshman from Whitney High School in Rocklin, near Sacramento, won the 50-yard freestyle and was part of 2 winning relay teams as Mesa's swimming & diving team won 14 of 16 events to dominate Southwestern. She swam the backstroke leg of the winning 200 medley relay team and the third leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay team. Mill is undefeated in the 50 free this season, winning the event at the Waterman Festival, the Mt. SAC Invitational, the Chaffey Invitational and both of Mesa's dual meets. The Olympians are 2-0 in the PCAC.

Grossmont's Sahagun, a sophomore infielder from Heritage Charter High School, went 7-for-14 and drove in 4 RBIs as the Griffins lost to Palomar 13-4, Pasadena City College 3-0 and Fullerton 9-1, then defeated the Hornets 6-2.
