The San Diego Mesa College women’s soccer team enters the new season looking to build on last year’s success. In 2024, the Olympians finished 13-10 overall and advanced to the 3C2A SoCal Regional playoffs under head coach Melissa Warner.
Although the season ended with a loss to Ventura College, Warner says the experience raised expectations. “We’re always focused on building success,” she said. “This season has already brought challenges, but we’ve adapted quickly and our eyes remain on the prize.”
The Olympians are currently 1-4-1 after a 2-2 draw with Southwestern. The program graduated key contributors, including Bre Conney, Reese Palmer, and Alicia Romo, who went on to play in the WPSL. Natalie Miranda is now competing at the University of Maine, while Presque Isle and Sinthia Irianda are now both students at San Diego State University.
Despite those departures, the roster features a promising mix of returners and freshmen. Warner highlighted newcomers Anela Alioto and Azucena “Ace” Irianda as early standouts, crediting veteran players for setting the tone. “Our team leads by example,” Warner said. “The returners take ownership of our culture, and their confidence helps the younger players step in and succeed.”
Warner emphasizes resilience and growth as the foundation of the program. “We compete with determination, embrace challenges, and focus on developing both the player and the person,” she said. “If we take care of the details every day, the results will follow.”
Looking ahead, the coaching staff believes this year’s team has the talent and drive to surpass last season. “Falling short in the playoffs has fueled us,” Warner added. “We’re raising our standards, staying focused, and preparing our players to compete at the next level.”
