The San Diego Mesa College women’s basketball team is enjoying a solid 2024-25 season, highlighted by a successful December in which they won five out of seven games, including an undefeated run at the annual Santa Ana College Tournament.

The team's success is due in part to the standout performance of Alethze Marquez, who was recently named the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) Athlete of the Month for December. During that month, Marquez averaged an impressive double-double, with 12.7 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, while shooting .438 from the field.

Coach Lindsay Samaniego praise Marquez, stating, “AJ has been a beast on the boards this season. When she’s focused and disciplined, she’s really hard to guard. She’s stepped up in a lot of games for us, making big baskets or getting big rebounds. I know if she continues to put in the work, she’ll be even harder to stop. We’re very proud of her accomplishment. She’s a great person and always positive with her teammates.”
