Olympians overpower Cuyamaca, defense continues to play strong

The Mesa College women's basketball improved to 5-3 in the conference after a convincing 62-42 victory over Cuyamaca College on Wednesday night. 

Gwen Morris-Lundstrom led the offense with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Niki Madgedi connected on two 3-pointers and ended the night with 12 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 block. Reese Hohenthaner contributed 9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists. Emma Fitzgerald finished with 8 points and 2 rebounds. 

The defense set the tone early in the first quarter, holding the Coyotes to only 8 points in the first quarter. In addition, the clamp-like defense forced Cuyamaca into committing 9 turnovers. 

The victory brings the teams overall record to 13-9 and 5-3 in the Pacific Athletic Coast Conference. This was the second match up of the season between the sides, the Olympians previously claimed a 77-40 win at home over the Coyotes on January 6.

SD Mesa College will travel to MiraCosta to take on the Spartans on Friday, February 3. The two met on January 11, with MiraCosta besting the Olympians 45-60. Mira Costa currently holds a one-game lead over Mesa College in the PCAC standings.
