Women's basketball falls to Orange Coast College 42-54

After an impressive 54-32 season opener victory against Fullerton College, the San Diego Mesa women's basketball team fell to Orange Coast College 42-54 evening their record at 1-1.

The team has been impressive with their defensive effort. The ability to create and apply pressure is something the coaching staff focuses on. Morris Lundstrom is currently leading the team with 12 points per game followed by Kaylee Goff averaging 11 points per game. "Goff has been great for us," states head coach Lindsay Samaniego. "She brings speed and athleticism. She's tough to guard and can get to the rim at any time. She also helps set the tone and does an amazing job in our press."

The season is early and the team is learning how to work together. During the loss against Orange Coast College the offense struggled with consistency and decision making. The coaching staff mentioned that decreasing turnovers and finding a way to finish possessions will be one of the keys to focus on this week at practice. When the team comes together and is under control, they are tough to stop and possessions become successful.

A pleasant surprise has been the play of Kaylee Goff and Bella Terry. Goff has been solid offensively while Terry has been doing a tremendous job crashing the boards.
