Men's take top spot, Women 3rd in Cross Country Season Opener

Both the San Diego men’s and women’s cross country team shined in their first meet of the season, with the men’s team claiming first place and the women’s team finishing 3rd behind Fresno Pacific and Fresno State. The Seawolf Invitational has become an annual trip for both teams since Woodward Park is the location for the year-end state meet. It provides members of the team a preview of what to expect when they return in November.

The men’s team took 6 of the top 10 individual positions to claim the top spot. Led by David Millan, who turned in a 20:51.20 time, he was followed by teammates Juan Rosales (20:51.20), Devin Provence (20:51.59), and Jesus Villarreal (21:05.60). Alan Jimenez (21:21.91), Bryce Kueker (21:23.12), and Zak Beckwith (21:26.95) finished ninth through eleventh respectively.

The women’s team, who finished in 3rd place, behind Fresno Pacific and Fresno State,  was the top junior college program at the meet. Mohussin Abakan (19:08.74) placed 4th followed by Kyana Cook who finished in 13th with a 19:51.66. Presley Bennet (20:28.23) and Sidney Garcia (20:28.23) both finished 22nd and 23rd.
