Ricketts named coach of the year

Men’s and women’s cross-country head coach Sean Ricketts has been named the 2018 Men’s Cross-Country Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.

Ricketts, in his second year at the helm guided the program to the 2018 PCAC crown and a third-place finish at the state championships held earlier this month.

“It’s an absolute honor to receive this award,” states Ricketts. “Credit goes to all our athletes and our coaching staff. All of our success was a team effort. We take great pride representing the rich tradition of Mesa Athletics.”

Under Ricketts, the Olympians lead the conference with six members named to the All-PCAC squad (Isaiah Labra, Stefen Rasmuson, Bobby Brana, Christian Alcantar, Jose Garcia, Nickoli Melovidov).

I am very proud of Sean for winning this award in his second year,” states athletic director Ryan Shumaker. “His coaching accolades continue on from a great track and field campaign where he was also named coach of the year. This is a true testament to the student-athletes that he represents and the hard work that they put into their education and athletic careers.
