Men's Track and Field Shine at SoCal Finals

The San Diego Mesa's men's and women's track and field teams are once again hitting their stride at the perfect moment. Following strong performances at this weekends 3C2A SoCal Finals, both teams are set for the upcoming state championships on Friday, May 16th, at San Mateo College.

Despite the heat, which at times came close to reaching three-digits, both teams performed well, each securing a solid third-place finish. The women's team accumulated 112 points, closely following Riverside City College (133) and Mt. San Antonio College (137.5). The men's team scored 125 points, with Mt. San Antonio College taking second at 149 and Riverside City College claiming the top spot with 183 points.

The Olympians will be sending a strong contingent of 35 athletes to the state championships, comprised of 16 women and 19 men. Head Coach Sean Ricketts emphasizes the team's consistent ability to peak during championship month. "We are poised for podium finishes both as a team and individually, with athletes striving for All-American honors and state titles," Ricketts adds.

The program looks at the SoCal Regionals as a qualifying meet. Some of the highlights over the weekend involved relay teams.  The women’s 4x100 tied a 27-year-old school record with a time of 46.95 seconds. Adding to the excitement, the men’s 4x100 team clocked a season's best time of 40.93 seconds.  The program put a heavy emphasis on the 4x100 meter relays to set the tone for this year’s competitions.
