Results: Track and Field Hosts Arnie Robinson Invitational

The San Diego Mesa men's and women's track and field team recently participated in the Mangrum Invitational in San Marcos and Willie Williams Classic in Arizona. They then hosted the annual Arnie Robinson Invite, which is a two-day event honoring the legendary Olympic gold medalist who graduated from Mesa before transferring to San Diego State University.

Arnie Robinson was a product of Morse High School and won the 1970 NCAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the long jump. He won the Olympic Trials in the long jump twice, placing third at the 1972 Olympics, and then grabbing gold at the 1976 games. Robinson won seven national long jump titles, six of them being outdoors. In 1979, Robinson returned to Mesa College and dedicated his life and resources to helping track and field grow in San Diego. He spent more than $35,000 of his own money on track and field equipment to be used by youth athletics.

The coaching staff, led by Sean Ricketts, has the team running in peak form as usual. In the college open events, there were nine meet records and five stadium records broken, including Victor Rosas' 14.29.39 in the 5000-meter race. Here are the highlights from the event.
