Men's AOTW award goes to Grossmont's Van Ti.
Grossmont College baseball player Cabot Van Til is the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference's Men's Athlete of the Week for April 17-23.
Van Til, the Griffins' sophomore right fielder from Patrick Henry High School who has committed to San Diego State, went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs as the G-House won the rubber game of a three-game series with Palomar 7-4 to move past the Comets into the undisputed PCAC lead.
He hit a 3-run home run in the second inning as the Griffins came back from a 3-0 Palomar lead to take a 4-3 lead in the game – then tacked on a solo HR in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Van Til leads PCAC batters on the season with a .443 average.
Honorable mention for the week was awarded to San Diego Mesa swimmer Chris Evangelista, Palomar swimmer Connor Baine and baseball players Adam Lopez of Southwestern and Billy Reyes from San Bernardino Valley.
Evangelista, a freshman from Mt. Carmel High School, won three events in helping the Olympians to a decisive victory in the PCAC Swimming Championships over the weekend at Palomar's Wallace Memorial Pool. Mesa outscored runner-up Grossmont 1,075 points to 521.
Baine, a freshman out of Temecula Valley High School, also won three events in the PCAC finals in leading the host Comets to a third-place team finish. Baine and Evangelista were honored as the conference Men's Co-Swimmers of the Year.
Lopez, a freshman third baseman out of Grossmont High School, went 5-for-13 as the Jaguars, who have won 12 of their last 13 games, took two of three games in a series against San Diego City College. He went 3-for-3 in a 9-3 victory in game 1, went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in a 4-3 loss in game 2, and was 1-for-5 with a run scored in game 3.
Reyes, the Wolverines' freshman centerfielder from Yucaipa High School, went 3-for-4 and drove in a run in a 16-2 rout of Imperial Valley. He came back in the second game of the series to go 3-for-4 with a double and 2 runs scored as San Bernardino won again 6-2. Reyes is batting .354 for the Wolverines.
