Isaiah Nuñez enters his second year as Pitching Coach for the Olympians as they prepare for the 2025
season.

His first season as Pitching Coach at San Diego Mesa saw improvements all across the board. The team
won 8 more games from the year prior. The Olympian Pitching staff lowered its ERA from 6.92 to 4.64,
WHIP from 1.93 to 1.55, improved K/9 from 6.95 to 8.63, and decreased Home Runs allowed from 35 to
20. Nunez first year resulted in one starting pitcher earning first team all-conference, and 4 others as
Honorable Mention. In addition to his duties as pitching coach, Nunez also serves the team as Strength
and Conditioning Coach, Academic Retention Technician, and Adjunct Professor in the Exercise Science
department.

Prior to joining the Olympians, Nuñez coached at NCAA Division 2 Power Lenoir-Rhyne University,
helping the bears win over 80 games in his 2 seasons from 2022-2023. At Lenoir-Rhyne Isaiah worked
with some extremely driven baseball minds. Chris Ramirez is now the Head Coach at Southern Indiana
(D1), Derek Beasley became Pitching Coach at Western Carolina (D1) & now Southern Indiana (D1), Matt
Risdon is now assistant coach at University of New Mexico (D1), Brandon Krennrich is now an Assistant
Coach at Southern Indiana (D1), Micah Baumfeld now Pitching Coach at Lenoir-Rhyne (D2), and Adam
Skonieczki is the current Head Coach at Lenoir-Rhyne (D2). During his tenure at LR, the Bears pitching
staff compiled many top-10 school records including strikeouts, ERA, WHIP, and wins. Isaiah helped
mentor a dozen All-Conference, All-Academic, and All-Region players, including San Diego Padres 2024
9 th Round Draft Pick Zach Evans.

Before joining the Bears staff, Nuñez coached at his alma mater Sacramento City College from 2020-
2021, under the tutelage of future Hall of Fame California Community College baseball coaches Derek
Sullivan and renowned pitching coach Deskaheh Bomberry.

Nuñez also has impressive experience in the private sector as a performance throwing trainer at
Optimum Athletes (founded by Major Leaguer Ryan Mattheus) from 2019-2021, at Tread Athletics
(founded by Professional Pitching Coach Ben Brewster) during the summer of 2022, and at Union
Baseball Systems (Founded by Chicago Cubs Director of Innovation Bobby Basham) from Fall 2023-
Present.

Prior to coaching, Nuñez compiled an excellent playing career as a starting and high leverage relief
pitcher. Nunez started 15 games in his senior season at Division 1 Cal State Northridge. Isaiah became
the first Matador since 2002 to win eight games in a season, finished with an 8-4 record with 66
strikeouts and a 3.09 ERA in 93.1 innings of work, while earning All-Big West Honorable Mention and Big
West All-Academic Team honors. During his senior campaign, Nunez ranked fifth in the Big West in
innings pitched, sixth in wins and ninth in ERA and strikeouts. Isaiah also ranked 10th in all of division 1
baseball in walks allowed per nine innings (1.25). As a junior, Nunez appeared in 23 games and made
nine starts.

Before arriving at CSUN, Nunez got his collegiate start at Sacramento City College. Nunez played two
seasons with the Panthers and posted a career 2.33 ERA to go along with a 15-3 record and 121
strikeouts over 154.1 innings.

 

A native of Sacramento, CA… Isaiah prepped at local Inderkum High School. Nunez received his Associate’s Degree at Sacramento City College, Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science at Cal State Northridge, and Master’s Degree at Lenoir-Rhyne.

Isaiah and his Fiancé, Dayna, reside in San Diego.
