Mesa Alum, Alejandro Duarte began his Mesa College Coaching Career in the summer of 2024. Duarte
will serve as Assistant Pitching and Bullpen Coach while also being instrumental in the recruiting of
future Olympians.
Prior to coaching at Mesa, Alex was the Assistant Pitching and Bullpen Coach at Kansas Wesleyan
University. The Coyotes won the 2024 Conference regular season championship, won the NAIA opening
round for the first time in school history, and made the schools first NAIA World Series Appearance in
Lewiston, Idaho.
Before starting his coaching career, Duarte enjoyed an impressive run as a member of the Coyotes.
Kansas Wesleyan University reached new heights, winning the Conference tournament championship in
2022, Conference regular season championship in 2023, and two regional appearances.
Prior to attending KWU, Duarte was a pivotal member of the Olympians success. His freshman season,
Alex was a key contributor to Mesa’s 2019 Conference Championship, Regional Championship, and
Super Regional Appearance. And was again a vital member to San Diego Mesa’s 2020 repeat campaign
prior to the COVID-19 season cancellations. Duarte made 17 appearances, including 4 starts, and posted
strong K/9 and ERA numbers.
Alejandro is a native of Imperial, CA and attended Imperial High School where he was teammates with
fellow Olympians; Ryan Bonillas, Chris Lopez, and Kobby Lopez. During the 2018 campaign, Duarte threw
to a 1.37 ERA over 11 Appearances for the Tigers en route to the CIF Championship game.
Duarte Completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from Kansas Wesleyan University as well as
his Associate’s Degree from San Diego Mesa College. Alex is an Adjunct Professor in the Athletics
Department at San Diego Mesa College.
