KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Rogers State baseball had eight different players receive MIAA honors on Thursday, the league announced.
 
A native of Colton, Calif., Jesse Holguin earned First Team All-MIAA honors in his first season on the Hill. In 200 at-bats, Holguin hit a team-high .360 with 25 extra base hits, including six home runs. The sophomore sits in the league top 10 in multiple offensive categories including seventh in hits (72), RBI (56) and doubles (17).
 
Jordan Ewig, the Fallbrook, Calif. product, earned Second Team All-MIAA honors on the mound. In 83.1 innings pitched, the senior posted a 7-4 record with a 4.32 ERA. He finished the regular season as one of the top starters in the league, ranking third in innings pitched, fifth in strikeouts (78) and fifth in wins. During the season, he was a two-time MIAA Pitcher of the Week.
 
A product of San Diego, Calif., Joel Escalante earned Third Team All-MIAA honors as a designated hitter. The sophomore finished the regular season hitting .344 in 128 at-bats with 14 extra base hits, including five home runs. Escalante also brought in 34 runs as well as scoring 22 times on his own, and only struck out a team-low 11 times.
 
Both Jonathan Soto and Prescott Horn earned Gold Glove Awards for their work behind the plate and in the outfield, respectively. A senior from Fallbrook, Calif., Soto finished the regular season with a .984 fielding percentage and 325 putouts at the dish, with 40 assists and 22 runners caught stealing. Horn, a junior from Apache Junction, Ariz., posted a .989 fielding percentage with 82 putouts and seven assists in right field.
 
Soto, Octavio Sanchez, Skyler Nelson and Gavin Mestas were all also named Honorable Mention All-MIAA selections.
 
The Hillcats will begin the MIAA Tournament as the No. 7-seed in a first round, best-of-three series on Saturday, May 7 in Tahlequah, Okla. against No. 2-seed Northeastern State. First pitch for game one is set for 2 p.m.
