As the season enters the championship stage, Beach Volleyball Head Coach Kim Lester talks about the strength of Pool A alongside Feather River College and Cerritos College. “All six teams are solid and both pools are very tough,’ states Lester. “Cerritos has had a great year, which includes knocking off the #2 seed Santa Monica College. Feather River is one of the best programs in the state, are always competitive, and well coached.”
Similar to last year's championships, weather is anticipated to play a factor. With expected temperatures to hover between 83 - 90 degrees, players will be reminded to maintain hydration. “When things get hard, which includes the weather, we must stay mentally strong,’ Lester adds. “We need to continue with our positive self-talk, not focus on the bad, and just be present in the moment.”
The team's mantra has “always been to play ‘Mesa Beach Volleyball.’ Throughout the season, the team has been untouchable when they play their game, which is to keep things simple, have good touches, communicate well, execute the game plan, and never give up. All of these elements must be firing on all cylinders in order for this team to go into a deep playoff run. “We must stay loose and honestly just play the way we have all year.”
The team will travel to Long Beach City College and play begins on Thursday, May 8th. Match times are subject to change based on duration of previous matches. We will update start times here and on our social media accounts.
