Mesa beats DVC, 9-8 at State Championships

Playing in it's first State Championship game the Mesa women's water polo team rallied in the fourth quarter to beat DVC 9-8 to advance to the title game. Playing from behind for most of the game Mesa tied the score at 7 with a goal from Cassie Bernas (pictured), one of 4 she would score. In the fourth quarter Lilli Lindgard scored an early goal and Bernas added one midway through and Mesa's defense held DVC without a goal until :17 remained. Mesa ran out the clock for the win.  Bernas led all scorers with 4 goals and Analise Voytilla and Jaicey Tyler each scored 2 goals to go along with the one from Lilli Lindgard. Madi Atkins had 9 saves.

Mesa advances to the title game against Riverside, a re-match of last weekend's SoCal Championship title game. Mesa is now 27-3.
