Men's and Women's Track has strong showing at Saddleback Invitational

The San Diego Mesa College men's and women's track and field team is off to a strong start in 2023.  Not only are they dominating, but they are also breaking records and accomplishing state A marks. This weekend, the team traveled to Saddleback College to compete at what's deemed as the true season opener for both squads. They definitely didn't disappoint. 

The men's team obliterated the field  with an impressive 236 points overall. In second place, El Camino College tallied 99 total points, a difference of 137. It wasn't even close.

The women's team also had a strong performance landing in second place with 104 points behind Cerritos with 170 points. Freshman Sidney Garcia with another great performance in the 800m, turning in a 2:19.09, which is #1 in the state, #8 all-time at Mesa, and qualifies the state A mark.  Another freshman making her mark is Kais Kimuli  out of Mt. Carmel High School. In the shot put  she turned in a 12.89m  42'3.5, which is #10 all time at Mesa, state A mark, and #2 in the state. On discuss, she recorded  a 43.32m 142'1, which is also a state A mark, #2 in the state, and #8 all-time at Mesa.

Both teams will travel to Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, March 10 to compete at the annual Ben Brown Invitational. On Saturday, March 11, the team will also compete at the Oxy Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic. Race time is scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. start.
