Season Outlook Women’s Swimming & Diving 2018

After winning the PCAC Championships and finishing as Runner-Up at the State Championships in 2017 the expectations are high for the 2018 team. Leading the way will be a solid group of returners including 3 individual event state finalists and double relay (400 & 800 Free) state champions Samantha Schmidt and Andreanna Mill. Mill specializes in the sprint to middle distance freestyle events while Schmidt is versatile and can do middle to distance freestyle as well as the both IM’s. Complementing these two will be 3 individual event state finalist and 800 free relay state champion Anya Lavoie, who also specializes in the distance free and IM events. Sophomores Renee Lanswick (state relay finalist, 400 Medley) and Carly DaCosta also return to give the Olympians depth.

Incoming freshmen Julie Parsons (backstroke), Carly Lupien (breaststroke) and Natalia Martinez-Velasco should help improve both medley relays as well as their stroke specialties. Giving Mesa more depth will be Ashley Andrade, Megan Beltz, Katrin Gaines and Shyla Toledo.

The diving team is expected to be larger and even better than ever. Sophomores Kaitlin Silveira and 2016 state finalist Karina Miranda will be joined by Santa Barbara City College transfer and 2017 state finalist  Ashley Dettmann and three freshmen; Maya Fielding, Andrea Probert and Mikaela Schilling.
