Women's soccer with 4 game win streak, hosts #1 Chaffey College

Despite several injuries on the team, the San Diego Mesa women’s soccer team continue their solid play bringing their overall record at 8-4-1 and 7-2 in the conference. The Olympians are currently in 3rd place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference behind Mira Costa (8-1-1) and Southwestern College (8-0-1). In the month of October the squad is 5-1 and is currently riding a 4-game win streak having only surrendered 3 total goals while recording 17.

“We’ve had some injuries recently, but it hasn’t deterred our goal,” states head coach Melissa Warner. “The most impressive thing about this team is how many players have stepped up and taken responsibility with one another.” Amongst the players that have stepped up are midfielder Marlene Lopez (High Tech High International) and freshman Julia Dore (Palm Desert High School). Both have embraced their new role and have been holding the position."

Second year player Audrey Reed (Live Oak High School) continues her consistent play. Reed is currently the 5th highest scorer in the conference and has made an impact with her ability to find the back of the net. Forward / midfielder Amya Jones (Helix Charter High School) has also contributed, which includes the game winning field goal against Santa Barbara College last Friday.

The team will host a tough Chaffey College team today at 2PM. The Panthers are currently ranked #1 in the state and carry with them an 8-game winning streak. Chaffey College is currently 12-0-2 and 6-0 in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference.

“We’ve all had to come together and get outside of our comfort zone and it’s proving to be successful,” adds Warner.  “We’re fired up to play the #1 team in the state.”
