2024 Softball Season Preview

The San Diego Mesa College softball team finished with a 19-15 overall record last season, finishing second in the conference, and eventually falling to Mt. San Antonio College in the first round of the regional playoffs. The team is six-games into the season, and has two goals in mind: to qualify for the playoffs and capture the conference title.

In order to achieve these goals, head coach Jaclyn Guidi emphasizes that focus will be the key to this year's success.

What are the goals for the upcoming season?
JG: For starters, we want to be a part of the 18 teams that qualify for the playoffs. We are also looking to capture the PCAC title.

What was, if any, the biggest ‘missing piece’ from last season?
JG: Our focus level needs to improve. If we could focus on every pitch, we would have played better. On our team, every player has a role that can change day by day. Each player needs to give 100%.

Who were the key losses through matriculation last season?
JG: We lost 10 sophomores last season, but we always recruit each season to fill in the missing pieces.

Tell me about this year's recruiting class, and who do you expect to contribute immediately.
JG: We have ten freshmen we brought in, and half of them will be starters. We need for them to step up their focus immediately since we play at a quicker pace than high school or travel ball.

Any player (s), you expect to make a big jump in performance from last season?
JG: We currently have four sophomores that have worked hard in the offseason both on the field and in the classroom. I expect them to contribute immediately.
