Home Opener for San Diego Mesa Softball

San Diego, CA – For the first time in 688 days the San Diego Mesa Softball took the field against Riverside City College in a double header on Friday. There was excitement and nerves on the field for both teams since it was their first games of the 2022 season. 

Mesa came out swinging for the fences in the 1st inning, scoring 1 run when freshman Salazar double and scoring on Wright's single. Until the top of the 7th inning it was 3 up, 3 down. In the top of the 7th inning, Riverside scored to tie-up the game. The game ended going into extra innings with international tie-breaker rules in affect. In the top of the 8th inning, Riverside scored a run, making the score 2-1. With no choice but to score to keep the game going, Mesa put up 2 runs to walk off the game 1. Salazar doubled, scoring freshman Guye, Wright reached on an error, Salazar scores on the error. Mesa wins game one, 3-2.  

Sophomore pitcher Izaguirre pitched lights out for 8 innings. Izaguirre faced 35 batters giving up 7 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts.

Game 2 was a completely different story. Riverside City College was in control the whole game, beating San Diego Mesa College 14-2.  

On Wednesday, February 2nd, the Lady Olympians travel to Saddleback College. First pitch is at 3pm (no spectators allowed).
