Savannah Ames and Dylana Guyong Dual Student-Athletes

Savannah Ames and Dylana Guyong Dual Student-Athletes

Being a full-time student, playing a sport, and working is already hard enough. Imagine attending two colleges and being a full-time student at both. That’s a total of 24 units in a semester, while playing a sport, and working on top of that. You have to be extremely disciplined and dedicated to be a dual athlete.

Savannah Ames and Dylana Guyong are two dual student-athletes on San Diego Mesa College’s softball team. Savannah Ames, a Point Loma High School alumni, attends both San Diego Mesa College and Point Loma Nazarene University. Ames majors in communications and plans on graduating from PLNU in fall of 2020. Ames carries a GPA over 3.0 at both colleges, PLNU 3.4 GPA and Mesa 3.8 GPA. Dylana Guyong, a Madison High School alumni, attends San Diego Mesa College and San Diego State University. Guyong is a triple major, criminal justice, psychology, and chemistry. Guyong is expected to graduate from San Diego State University in Fall of 2021. Guyong also carries a GPA over 3.0 at both colleges, SDSU 3.0 GPA and Mesa 3.8 GPA.

Ames and Guyong were asked a few questions about their experiences as dual student-athletes. When asked about their future career plans, Ames said she wants to become an event planner and Guyong wants to be a psychiatrist. They were then asked what the most challenging part about attending two colleges is. They both agreed the hardest part is time management as, taking 24 units in the spring, playing a 40-game college schedule, and working is difficult to manage.

Ames and Guyong were then asked what the most rewarding part about playing softball is. Ames said, “playing the sport I love and making friends that will last a lifetime, Guyong said, “playing the sport I love is stress relieving.” Coach Guidi is happy that both Ames and Savannah are coming back for another season. “I’m so proud of Savannah and Dylana for being dual student-athletes. I look forward to having them back for our 2021 season.”
