Moving Forward and Preparing for the Playoffs

To be successful in volleyball, a team must focus on playing an entire match, not just one set. Even with a 16-3 overall record and a perfect conference standing, the San Diego Mesa College men’s volleyball team was reminded of this recently in their non-conference match against Golden West College. Despite dropping three close sets and ultimately dropping the match, the Olympians aim to use it as an opportunity to improve.

According to Head Coach David Proffitt, every opponent they compete with this year will be playing at a higher level. With the success of the program, which includes a semifinal run at the state championships last season, Mesa College has a target on its back.

With three conference matches remaining in the regular season, the Olympians will need to apply these lessons to achieve their goal of making a deep playoff run at the end of the year. They also will need to lean on two standout freshman players, opposite hitter Trevor Clack and setter Logan Shepard, who have greatly contributed to the team's success.

The Olympians have their sights on a title run. They are back on the court tonight to face San Diego Miramar College. First serve is scheduled at 6:00 p.m.
