Pete Brooks is a San Diego native who competed in track and field for El Capitan High School, Grossmont College and San Diego State.

Pete was a 3 sport varsity athlete in high school and was part of the CIF championship cross country team, finished 6th in CIF wrestling championships, and was the Grossmont League Champion in pole vault.

In college Pete chose to focus on track and field at Grossmont College. He then transferred to San Diego State and competed in the pole vault and decathlon at the WAC championships in 1992 where he finished 7th in the decathlon.

The following year Pete Brooks began his long coaching career in both track and field and cross country. He was the head coach of both sports at Grossmont High School for 2 years and Vista High School for 15 years. Coach Brooks finished with 12 league championships, 4 San Diego CIF runners up, 1 CIF Championship, and 3rd in California State Championships.

Pete has coached the pole vault every season for the last 30 years at El Capitan High School, Grossmont High School, Vista High School, North County Pole Vault, and Mesa College. He has coached 11 high school boys over 15’ (the second strongest performance list in San Diego History) and has coached 3 boys to the top 3 at the California State Championships. At Mesa College Coach Brooks coached the two time state champion, Madison Rauch.

Pete Brooks has a BA degree in Social Sciences from SDSU and his masters degree in Performance Psychology from National University.

He lives with his wife and two children in Oceanside CA.
