The San Diego Mesa Men's and Women's Track and Field Team Traveled back up to Moorpark College on Friday May 13 for the SoCal Regional Finals on a hot day with temperatures soaring above 90 degrees. The top 4 athletes with State A Standards in laned events and the top 6 athletes with State A standards in non-laned and field events qualified for the State Championships.

 

The Men's Team placed 2nd in the region (Men's Programs highest finish in school history). Kyle Wood Javelin, Esteban Magana 1500m, Bryce Kueker 3000m Steeplechase, and Cesar Salazar Shot Put were all SoCal Champions.

For the Women, Madison Rauch was the Regional Champ in the Pole Vault, Yahaira Zuniga placed 2nd in the 5k, and the Women's 4x400m qualified to State.  These athletes also made a mark in school history with their performances:

 

 

"Our athletes executed and stayed focused despite the less than ideal hot weather conditions.  Our athletes conducted themselves like champions and performed at their best in one of the most important meets of the year".  explained Coach Ricketts

 

 

Up next for the Olympians is the CCCAA State Championships at Mt. Sac on Friday May 20 and Saturday May 21.  The SD Mesa Men are focused on a podium finish and both Men and Women athletes are focused on winning individual state titles and/or All American Finishes (Top 5 Places in each event)
