Daron Traylor commits to Southern Arkansas University

San Diego Mesa College basketball standout Daron Traylor has decided where he’ll spend the next couple of years to continue his academic and athletic career.

Surrounded  by head coach Travis Nichols, assistant coaches Adam Walton and Talib Mahdi, Traylor announced his commitment to play basketball for Southern Arkansas University.

Players are labeled either a scorer or a defensive specialist. Daron Traylor was both. Not only did he lead the team with 21.1 points per game, he also led the team with 7.4 rebounds per game. In addition, he led the team with a 52.2% field goal percentage and was second on the team with 1.4 steals per game.

“Daron was our highest scoring player that opponents struggled to defend,” states head coach Travis Nichols. “Defenses focused on him, but yet he was  still able to put up great numbers because he gave you everything he had each game. His energy was contagious amongst his teammates and benefitted us greatly.”

The 6’2 guard out of  Mt. Miguel High School will join the Muleriders basketball program that was seeded #8 in the NCAA Division II Championships, reaching the Central Regional Quarterfinals.

“Daron is a hard working and responsible young man whose dedication to both his academic and athletic career has paid off,” adds Nichols. “He’s always been consistent while at Mesa. He properly utilized the resources we had for him and was always transparent with our staff when he needed additional support.  I will miss his easy-going and positive nature. He will make an immediate impact at Southern Arkansas.
