Olympians finding balance, downs Cuyamaca College 70-54, wins 2nd-straight

After missing the last two games, head coach Travis Nichols returned to the sideline to coach the team to an important 70-54 victory against Cuyamaca College.

"I was sick with a bad cold and I didn't want to expose our players and coaches," states Nichols. "It's great to be back though, and even more important, it was a good win for our team."

The Olympians were led by Daron Taylor who poured in 29 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists. Dallas Rider also had a great game with 17 points.

"Tonight we saw them play as a team," adds Nichols. "We've had some issues this year with selfish play, but tonight, they started out playing team defense and offense which set the tone early."

The team has been plagued by key injuries and is finally starting to find its identity. With so many key pieces missing, the coaching staff has done a tremendous job shuffling its line-up. "Our guys continue to get better,' adds Nichols. "We are asking them for a lot, but as long as we continue to improve, we'll be fine at the end of the season. Watching our players work on their weaknesses to be better ball players was nice to watch tonight."

The squad is 2-2 in the conference and 7-9 overall. They will travel to MiraCosta on Friday. Tip off is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start.
