Three Olympians named on all-conference team

Sophomores Daron Traylor, Jaiden Pate, and freshman Steve Stinson have been named on the 2022-23 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference All-Conference Team. All-conference members are voted on by all men’s basketball coaches in the conference.

First-Team All-Conference Daron Traylor was a threat both on offense and defense. Traylor led the team in both points per game (21.1) and rebounds (7.4).

WHAT NICHOLS SAYS:
Daron put the team on his back this season by leading us in scoring and rebounding. Towards the second half of the season, he was able to play some of his best basketball. He finished his career being the top scorer in the conference, which earned him a spot on the first-team. His hard work and dedication off and on the court paid off. He will leave Mesa with his AA degree in hand.

Second-Team All-Conference Sophomore Jaiden Pate averaged 14.3 points per game, 6.2 rebounds per game, and 3.1 assists per game.

WHAT NICHOLS SAYS:
Jaiden was another player who was the heart and soul of our team. We asked him to do a lot, particularly assigning him to the opponents best players. Not only did he do a great job defending, he was also dynamic in scoring, rebounding, and led the team in blocks. I am proud of the student and player he has become. Jaiden will leaving Mesa with his AA degree in hand.

Honorable Mention Freshman Steve Stinson immediately contributed to the team. Stinson averaged 11.5 points per game and 1.3 steals per game.

WHAT NICHOLS SAYS:
Steve was the perfect addition to our program. There were a handful of crucial games where Steve lead the team in scoring. As a freshman, not only did he contribute immediately, but if it wasn’t for his ability to take over a game, some of those games we would have lost. I can’t wait to him progress as a player next season. Steve is also one of our top students in the program. He is a perfect example of what our program is about.
