Mesa Basketball: Wright, Bailey, and Henry sign letters of intent

The San Diego Mesa College basketball program is proud to announce the following players committing to four-year universities. Jamaal Wright will sign with Benedictine University in Mesa, Arizona. William Bailey with Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky and Emanwel Henry with Glenville State in West Virginia.

Jamaal Wright, a 6’4 forward from San Diego, CA will be transferring to Benedictine University in Mesa, Arizona. Wright played in 23 games last season averaging 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. ‘Jamaal was a highly sought after player out of high school, he could have chosen to take the easier route by playing for a more established team, but he chose our program and turned out to be our centerpiece during our rebuild,’ states head coach Travis Nichols. “Jamal did everything he promised to do. He dedicated himself in the classroom and on the floor.’ Known for his kindness, Jamaal was known as someone that would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. But don’t let the kindness fool you, Jamaal brings a toughness, high energy, and loyalty that  Benedectine University will appreciate.

William Bailey moves on to Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. Bailey, a 6’6 forward is a product of Morse High School. Averaging 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, Bailey is expected to bring his all around game that will make him a force in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The coaching staff agrees, Will, as he is better known, has not even come close to reaching his full potential. ‘The moment he set foot on campus, we all knew he’d be a superstar in the making,’ adds Nichols. ‘He has every potential to become as great as he allows himself to be. It will be scary and fun to watch when he puts it all together at the next level. With his drive, I have no doubt he will succeed.’

Emanwel Henry is a 6’6 guard/ forward from San Diego High School. Henry competed in 23 games, averaged 8.6 points per game while shooting 48.4% from the field. He will be taking his talents to West Virginia at Glenville State University. Another highly recruited player coming out of high school, Henry set the new standard for Mesa Basketball.  Known for his incredible athletic ability, Henry brings with him the ability to awe fans with his jumping ability.

“Loyalty” is an important word within the program. Loyalty to yourself, family, and performance. “These three gave everything we could ask for and have become sons to me,’ adds Nichols. “We have had everything thrown at us over the past couple of years, including a worldwide pandemic. Today, I am a proud coach and mentor. I will miss them and my hope is that once they depart Mesa, they know they are loved.”

Once an Olympian, always an Olympian.
