2024 Women's Beach Volleyball Season Preview

2024 Women's Beach Volleyball Season Preview

What are the keys for a successful season?
KL: We need to want to learn every day and trust the process. We must show up every day and put in the work, max effort from each. We need to be able to move through failure quickly and be present in the moment. We need to trust each other, play for each other, and always know it's about we, not me. And finally, we need to stay healthy!

What was, if any, the biggest ‘missing piece’ from last season?
KL: We were strong, 1-5 last season; however, there were moments last year where I don’t think we as a team fully bought into our standards of team first. Most of our players just concluded the indoor season as state champions. The experience they gained during their run and learning what it takes to get to the top is invaluable.  This team knows what it takes to win at the highest level, and we have the opportunity to do something special.

Have we addressed that missing piece from last season?
KL: Yes. What I know about this team is they are dedicated to each other and have adopted the process of getting 1% better each day. We have a talented group of student-athletes on this team, and I'm expecting each one to step up, do their job, give their best, and have some fun doing it!

Tell me about this year's recruiting class, and who do you expect to contribute immediately.
KL: One thing I noticed about our new players is that they are excited to be here. They not only have beach volleyball experience but also bring a lot of athleticism to the team.

What is/ are the goals for the season?
KL: Our goal is to play for each other, never give up, give our best, have fun, and win state!

Any player (s), you expect to make a big jump this season?
KL: Emily Eltrich and Victoria Goff are key players at the top of the lineup. I expect them to make a strong run once again this season. Mia Wettergren had an injury towards the end of our season last year. Through her hard work and sacrifice, she looks stronger than ever. I am also excited to have Olivia Ostler back after a redshirt season. She adds size and physicality to this team.

Any new coaches join your team?
KL: Sarah Savoca is our new assistant coach. As a former Division I player for the University of Portland, she brings a lot of experience and knowledge that she will be able to share with the team. In addition, she operates a mental skills training business and will incorporate her methodology to our program. We are lucky to have her and all she brings to our program.
