Women's Beach Volleyball Suffers First Loss

Coming off a hard fought 3-2 victory against San Diego Christian College early on Friday, the Olympians suffered their first defeat of the year, falling 1-4, to Mt. San Antonio College later that afternoon.

Mt. San Antonio College and Mesa College last squared off in 2022 at the SoCal Regionals where the Olympians came out with a 4-1 victory propelling them to the state championships. The Mounties this time around started off with momentum, and never let it go. "We didn't excute our game strategy against Mt. SAC, "states head coach Kim Lester. "We have to improve our approach right away and we need to compete a whole lot better when we are pushed."

Freshman Mia Wettergren was sidelined against Mt.SAC. Kaila Keovilavsane did a tremendous job filling in at the number 5 slot. Keovilavsane and Isabelle Restani defeated Kylie Rhodes and Zara Green 21-15, 14-21, 7-15. "Kaila did a tremendous job stepping in for Mia," adds Lester. "Overall, we need to play and practice better. We have to practice as if we are playing a match. We have to compete better if we want to make a run at the championship this year."

The team will host the University of Nebraska on Thursday, March 16 at Grossmont College. Match is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
