Mesa's Perlin is PCAC Men's Athlete of the Week

The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference has honored San Diego Mesa College water polo player Max Perlin as Men's Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 2-8.

Perlin, a sophomore utility player out of El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills, leads the conference in goals with 44 and also has totaled 18 steals and 13 assists.

Last week, Perlin scored eight goals in leading the Olympians to a 23-10 PCAC victory over Southwestern.

HONORABLE MENTION

Michael Stewart (Mt. San Jacinto Football), a freshman wide receiver from Tqhquitz Hgh School in Hemet, caught touchdown passes of 38 and 7 yards in the first quarter from Sheriron Jones to give the Eagles an early two-TD lead and Mt. San Jac went on to take a 47-33 victory over host Los Angeles Valley, the top-ranked American Division (non-playoff division) team from last season and top-ranked going into Saturday's game. Stewart had six receptions for 66 yards and also returned punts and kickoffs.

Jomari Becnel (Mt. San Jacinto Football), a 5-foot-7, 174-pound sophomore running back from Phoebus High School in Hampton, Virginia, returned a kickoff 90 yards against L.A. Valley. He also rushed for 107 yards on 23 carries and caught a 10-yard pass.

Avelino Morales (San Diego City College Soccer), a sophomore forward out of San Diego High School, scored two of the Knights' goals in a 7-1 victory over Imperial Valley.       

Jesus Varela (San Diego City College Soccer), a sophomore midfielder from San Diego High School, also scored two goals for the Knights in the win over the Arabs.

Marco Aguilar (College of the Desert Soccer), a sophomore midfielder out of Rancho Mirage High School, scored a goal to help the Roadrunners tie San Bernardino Valley 2-2. The Wolverines are the defending PCAC champion and are one point behind PCAC leader Southwestern in the conference standings.
