The San Diego Mesa College men’s cross country team headed to Woodward Park in Fresno, California Saturday morning with the hopes of defending and claiming a third consecutive state title. Unfortunately, the Olympians just fell short against Mt. San Antonio College with a time of 1:42.38 to Mt. San Antonio’s 1:42.18, a difference of :20 seconds. Total score MT. SAC 59, San Diego Mesa College 62. In 3rd place was Riverside College with a time of 1:44.34; total score 126 points.
The Olympians were led by David Millan placing 4th with a time of 20:10.8. Juan Rosales finished in 8th place at 20:26.6 Bryce Kueker crossed the finish line in 12th at 20:30.6. Alan Jimenez 20:42.1 in 17th place to finish in the top 20.
The women’s team, similar to the men’s, also placed second behind Mt. San Antonio College. The runner-up finish is the program's best result since the 1994 state championship squad. The Olympians turned in a total time of 1:38.25 to Mt. San Antonio College time of 1:35:30. Final score, Mt. San Antonio College 83 San Diego Mesa College 138. Conference champion Mohussin Abakar was the top finisher for the Olympians placing 5th with a time of 18:31.3. She was followed by Kyana Cook who finished in 25th place with a 19:20.4 time. Marion Decker finished 35th with a 19:45.2. Sophie Moser-Smith with a 19:52.0 placed 39th.
