Men's Swim & Dive finishes 2nd in conference

The San Diego Mesa College men’s swim and dive team, led by second year coach Michael Murrad, has been on a mission to rebuild the program. Although the Olympians fell short, placing second in the conference with 595 points, behind Palomar College 711 points, the improvement from last season creates an excitement that can be felt around campus.

“I am so proud of what this team has accomplished, from a performance standpoint, but more importantly how we built a new culture,” states head coach Michael Murrad. “These young men embraced the team first, something that can be difficult in individual sport.”

Ty Hunt placed second in both the 1M and 3M and has qualified for the state championships, the second year in a row he will be competing. Also competing at states for a second year will be Filip Dominique. Freshman Zach Gonzales placed first in the 200 breaststroke and made finals (top 8) in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley.

“I’m so excited to continue developing high expectations in the classroom and water,” adds Murad.  “The athletes were ready to schedule 2024 goal meetings the day their season ended, a sign they are as motivated as ever. We can’t wait to get back to work!"
