Mesa Community,

The Mesa College women's swimming and diving team just completed the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference dual meet season undefeated and won the dual meet championship, their 6th championship in the past 9 years. The team posted wins over Grossmont (192-78), Southwestern (204-39), and Palomar (165-118). The women also won the Chaffey Invitational and finished second in the Mt. SAC Invitational and Riverside Invitational meets. The women's 200, 400 and 800 Free Relays are ranked 1st in the state. Sophomore Anna Stahlak is ranked 1st in the state in the 100 and 200 Freestyle events while freshmen Samantha Schmidt, Anya Lavoie and Andreanna Mill are ranked in the top 5 in their events.

The men's swimming and diving team also captured the dual meet title, their 3rd in a row, for Coach Nathan Resch. The men have gone a perfect 12-0 for the past 3 years. The team defeated Grossmont (233-61), Southwestern (228-43) and Palomar (210.5-72.5). The average margin of victory for the three conference contests was 164 points when the most scored against them was 72.5. Mesa won 44 out of 48 events during conference meets, including a complete sweep of all relays. Chris Evangelista, a sophomore from Mt. Carmel High School, has not lost a conference race this season, is ranked 4th in the state in the 200 Freestyle and is also top 5 in the 200 IM. Mike McKinney, a 63-year-old freshman who last competed at Madison High School (Class of 1971), won 3 diving events this season.

The men's swimming team is also producing fabulous results in the classroom. Following a Spring 2015 3.32 overall team GPA, the men also maintained an outstanding spring 2016 3.25 team GPA!

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams next compete this weekend at the So-Cal Regional/State qualifying meet April 14-15, at the Conference Championships April 20-22, and at the State Championships in East Los Angeles May 4-6.
