Despite struggling with injuries since the start of the season, the Mesa women’s soccer team defeated Miramar college 3-0 at home on Tuesday night.

Sophia Salas gave the Olympians a 1-0 lead right before halftime. Natalie Polan provided the second goal from an assist from Sophia Salas. The third and final goal was added by Kenya Datu. Datu dribbled past several defenders before being fouled inside the box leading to a penalty kick which she converted to put the game out of reach 3-0.

“We still have players playing out of position, but the whole team has been stepping up,” states head coach Todd Curran. “Our defense has improved, and Alyssa Warner has been fantastic in the goal. She has been making key saves all year long.

The Olympians improve to 6-3-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference. The team will travel on Friday, October 19 to take on Mira Costa College. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m.
