At UCSB he earned several academic and athletic honors including Academic All-America and scholar-athlete recognition for water polo, four Big West team championships, the Golden Eagle Academic Excellence award, while reaching the dean’s list five times and participating in multiple anthropological and archaeological research expeditions.

Coach Resch was named the California Community College 2018 Men’s Swimming Coach of the Year. In 2015-2016 Coach Resch was named the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for all-sports when the Olympian men’s water polo team captured the conference title going 20-6 and won the PCAC Swimming and Diving title that same academic year. He has been named the PCAC men’s water polo coach of the year in 2010 and 2015, and the PCAC men’s swimming coach of the year in 2009, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

During his time in Santa Barbara, he coached several athletes who went on to win Gold in Rio 2016, including Sami Hill and Kiley Neushul.

In 2018, Coach Resch has 3 water polo student-athletes competing in Division 1 (Henry Smith – San Jose State, Cameron Woldt – Wagner, Devin O’Donnell – Wagner) and Marco Roy who is starting at D3 Whittier College. Neil Franka just capped his swimming career at University of Pacific.

“I am proud of the many athletic and academic accomplishments our student-athletes at Mesa have achieved, but, I am most proud of the great citizens we consistently produce,” Coach Resch mentions. “Mesa has become the crown jewel of San Diego Community Colleges with the unbelievable new educational buildings, and our new fitness center which takes the campus into the next 50 years. With priority registration, a 100% student-athlete advisor, outstanding weight room facility, our on campus competition pool, and a full-time on campus coach dedicated to student success and transfer, we have a lot to offer our aquatics athletes.”
