Men's Swim Enjoys Record Smashing Weekend

Right out of the gates in the first event of the Mt SAC invitational, the Mesa men's swimming team set the tone for the weekend by smashing the existing 200 Medley Relay meet record by nearly 3 seconds. The team of John Horne (25.62 backstroke split) Chon Pong Lao ( Breast 26.31) Neil Franka (Fly 22.47)  and Brandon Crabtree (Free 20.40) set the new mark of 1:34.80, which was also recorded as the fastest in pool history. The same relay team owned the 400 medley relay mark, breaking the meet record by 5 seconds in 3:28.85, in a time that was also a pool record.

Freshman Brandon Crabtree kept the momentum going by setting a school record in the 50 free at 20.84. Soon after, sophomore Neil Franka blazed the second fastest swim in school history (only to himself), by setting a meet record in the 100 Fly at 49.41. A few events later, Franka broke a 23 year old 100 back school record with a 51.18 mark.

They weren't done. Crabtree and Franka teamed up with Zapata, and Evangelista to smash the 400 yard free meet record by 4 seconds in a time of 3:07.50.

Mesa takes on Palomar at home this Friday 3/4/16 at 2pm, with diving starting at 12pm.
