Sinking three point baskets all of his life, Travis Nichols scores big as the new Head Coach of San Diego Mesa College Men's Basketball.

Nichols attended San Diego Mesa College from 1996 – 1998. In his 2 years as an Olympian, Nichols set new school records for the most 3 point baskets made in a single game; he sank 6 his freshman year and 9 in his sophomore year becoming the "All-Conference" and "Most Valuable" 2 guard in basketball at the time.

After leaving Mesa College, Nichols played Division II at Notre Dame. He graduated with a BA from Notre Dame, and transitioned to the United States Sports Academy, where he studied sports science, coaching and management and received an MA.

Nichols returned to Mesa College in 2007, when former Head Coach Ed Helscher asked him to assist with coaching Olympian basketball. Having prior experience with coaching varsity basketball at Hoover High School, Nichols did not hesitate to help his alma mater.

"Coach Nichols brings a lot of experience and enthusiasm to our program," stated Coach Helscher. "We are excited to have him lead the team."

As the new Head Coach, Coach Nichols visualizes the future of his Olympian team.

"I look forward to leading a team that is driven to succeed both on and off the court", stated Coach Nichols. "My vision is to create an environment where each player has the opportunity to be mentored into a responsible, goal oriented, hard-working young man. This will include not only impeccable athletic training, but a strategic focus on academic development and character building as well."

Coach Nichols will begin his first season in fall 2017 as Head Coach for San Diego Mesa College men's basketball, alongside Assistant Coaches Bryan Daniels, Adam Walton and Talib Mahdi.
