Coach McDonald is entering his 10th season coaching defensive backs. His first coaching position was at Poway High School coaching J/V and Varsity defensive backs in 2002 and 2003. In 2004 Coach McDonald stepped away from coaching to finish his education where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from San Diego State University.
In 2009, Coach McDonald joined the 1st football coaching staff at Del Norte High School in Poway. While at Del Norte, Coach McDonald served as the Varsity defensive backs coach for 5 seasons also fulfilling roles as Varsity special teams’ coordinator and JV defensive coordinator. In 2013, the Nighthawks were named Valley league champions. Coach McDonald was also given the opportunity to coach standout WR/DB, Patrick Zeller, who is currently attending and playing football for Division 1 TCU. He also coached All-CIF Defensive back, Quention Meeks, who is currently attending and playing football for Division 1 Stanford.
In 2014, Coach McDonald coached defensive backs at West Hills High School in Santee, CA where they finished as Grossmont East league Champions. Coach McDonald has coached 11 high school all-league defensive backs. In 2015, Coach McDonald coached Safety, Stephen Adegoke, who finished the season 1st team All-state, leading the state of California with 8 interceptions and 53 tackles most amongst all junior college defensive backs in the state. This will be Coach McDonald 2nd season as the defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator for the Olympians. Coach McDonald also works in Special Education for the Poway Unified School District.
