Sasson Named Coach of the Year

After leading San Diego Mesa College to the 2018 conference title, head coach Emma Sasson was recognized as the PCAC Women's Water Polo Coach of the Year.

The Olympians finished with an 18-10 overall record and finished with an unblemished 11-0 record in conference play.

"I'm honored for the award and encouraged to keep working harder for future seasons," states head coach Emma Sasson. "I can't take all the credit. I've had a lot of help. My assistant coaches, Laurel Kistler and Lauren Boyer have been so knowledgeable and helpful. They offer new perspectives to the game that I can't always see. Not to mention, the precedent left by last year's coach, Jackie Puccino, has pushed us all to be better. I'm very humbled to be a part of it."

The Olympians concluded the season with seven players being named on the all-conference team including sophomore Imperia Espinoza, who was named PCAC Water Polo Player of the Year.

Emma has really taken to Mesa College Women's Water Polo," states Athletic Director Ryan Shumaker. "She started her career here as an assistant coach and won the PCAC title last year in that role. After our head coach moved on to coach at Harvard University, Emma was a natural replacement and I couldn't be happier with the job she had done."
