Olympians getting ready to play pivotal games

Before the start of the 2019 women’s soccer campaign, head coach Todd Curran explained that in order to replicate past years success, we had to stay healthy and must be playing solid soccer in October. Midway into the season, the team has relatively stayed healthy and now face three crucial games against tough conference opponents.

On Tuesday, Mesa edged a tough MiraCosta College team 1-0 who is led by freshman sensation Silje Vigeland out of Sage Creek High School. Vigeland is currently ranked #4 on goals in the conference. The team followed up with another solid performance defeating conference foe Palomar College 8-0 on Friday.

The next two pivotal games will determine if Mesa will run away with the conference or create a log jam at the top. The squad will play a solid Southwestern College team tonight at 7:00 p.m. at home and then travel to Grossmont College on Friday, October 11, 1:00 p.m. kick off.

This will be the first time Mesa will play Southwestern College who is looking for revenge from last seasons ‘play-in’ game. The Olympians defeated the Jaguars 2-0 which propelled Mesa into the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

To finish the week, in what will surely be the game of the week. Mesa will travel to take on #2 Grossmont College. The Griffins are currently second in the conference behind Mesa College with a record of 4-4-1.

The team retained its national ranking at #10 and state ranking of #9.
