Women's Soccer falls to PLNU 0-4

SAN DIEGO, CA – The Mesa women's soccer team travelled to Point Loma Nazarene College on Wednesday evening to play its first and only scrimmage of the year. Todd Curran, who is serving his 21st year as the head coach of the women's program says, "we are still working on offensive and defensive concepts, implementing those will take some time. I thought the team competed great throughout the whole match. The box score wasn't ideal, but I am pleased with how we competed and we'll be ready to defend our PCAC title.

"Point Loma Nazarene College is a strong soccer team,' explains Curran, "they are a Division II funded scholarship program and playing against them is a great opportunity for both our players and coaching staff. We are not in the shape we want to be as of yet, but games like this will definitely raise our fitness level."

Freshmen Nikki Miranda and Yasmine Ortega both provided great energy throughout the game. They are great additions to an already talented group of players.  "I was extremely happy that when we chose to press higher, we created turnovers and scoring opportunities," adds Curran. "I think our defensive high pressure will frustrate some teams and lead to goal scoring opportunities this year." Sophomore goalkeeper Lilian Hill also showed her brilliance at the net. She might not be the biggest goalie in the conference, but her ability to read and react to the ball is what separates her from the rest.

The Lady Olympians season opener is on Thursday, August 30th at 3:00PM against Orange Coast College in Ventura, CA. Their first home game is on Thursday, September 6th at 7:00PM against Saddleback College.
