Mesa loses to Mt. San Jacinto College

The San Diego Mesa College women's basketball team fell to Mt. San Jacinto College 69-37 on Wednesday at Mesa College.

Freshman Yusra Gharram(Mission Bay HS) lead the Olympians with 14 points and Aaliyah Williams(Patrick Henry HS) contributed with 10 points.

Mt. San Jacinto got out to a fast start shooting 40% from the field which gave them a 12-point lead after the first quarter.  "We let them dictate the whole game," states head coach Dorchella James. "We played much better in the second half, but when you're playing a team like Mt. San Jacinto, we have to compete from the very first possession."

The Olympians failed on the free throw line converting only 7 out of 22 attempts. "We have got to make our free throws. There really is no excuse in going 7-22 from the charity line, that's 31%," adds James.

One positive was the play of freshman Marla Vereo(San Ysidro HS). "I was extremely pleased with Marla's play," explains James. "She suffered an injury earlier this year. Seeing her run around and have fun once again will only add another dimension to this team."

The women are back on the court on Friday, January 18 as they travel to take on Imperial Valley College. Game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
