After a two-week break from competition, the Mesa men’s water polo team was back in action on Wednesday taking on conference foe Southwestern College.

Despite a slow start, the Olympians were able to put it all together to come out on top 17-12.

Mesa College is currently 6-10 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Leading the game was freshman Cooper Lynch (University City HS) with 6 goals and 3 steals. Freshman Micah Schwenkmeyer (University City HS) added 3 goals and 5 assists.

“We were a little rusty at the start of the game,” states head coach Nathan Resch. “Due to injuries, we also didn’t have our normal starters, so we had to adjust our line. I was glad to leave Chula Vista with this very important win.”

This marks the second straight win for the Olympians, previously beating Miramar College 17-14.  “The guys are playing extremely well,” states Resch. “My hope is that we carry this momentum into next week and throughout the conference championships.”

The team will host Grossmont College on October 22 at 3:30 p.m. The team will then travel to San Marcos to take on Palomar College on October 24 at 3:30 p.m.
